Leaders have many great qualities but in order to be truly successful there are ten characteristics of good leadership that should be adopted by all leaders. Think of this like a shopping list. Maxwell says that " A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way." Does that describe you?Well if not, after going through this list of the ten characteristics of good leadership you will know what it takes. A good leader: 1. Sees the value in others and encourages and invests in them: You've heard it time and time again, there's now "I" in team my friends. So if you want your group or organization to succeed you have to recognize the strengths and values of your team and be willing to share information with the team. 2. Has a strong character: It's difficult to lead others if you do not have a strong character. This doesn't mean you haveto be loud and rowdy. It simply means you have to have firm beliefs, be grounded and not timid. 3. Has great communication skills: In order to delegate, pass on information, reprimand, reward etc a leader must be able to communicate effectively. A leader who can communicate well is seldom misunderstood or mistaken, the message being communicated is always correctly delivered. 4. We've all had that boss who hides in the corner office whose face we almost forget. A good leader understands that staying connected to their people and maintaining relationships is extremely important. The strength of a leader often originates from their followers. 7. Listens well: They are always willing to hear what their subordinates have to say. A good leader understands the importance of feedback and so makes a point to listen on a regular basis. 8. Is positive. A positive leader is inspiring and motivates their team to perform well. Regardless of whether the organization is facing good times or bad, a good leader has to see the positive in everything and focuses others to look on the bright side. 9. Has passion: They are passionate about what they are doing. When you are passionate about your job and the specificindustry that you work in, that rubs off of your employees. Passion results in a strong desire to succeed. 10. Is visionary: Great leaders are mindful of today but are focused on tomorrow. You must have a clear picture of whatthe future looks like for your team. What is your end goal? A great leader knows where they are going and is able to lead others on how to get there. These ten characteristics of good leadership, shouldn't be the only characteristics that you strive to adopt. There are other great qualities that many leaders possess. Some of those great qualities are already within you. Use yourpersonality and some the unique attributes that you possess and weave them together with the above characteristics.
