Strengthen Your Self Image Today With These Self Esteem Activities
Many of you are on journeys to improve your self esteem, here are some self esteem activities to keep you on the right path. In a world where self worth and self esteem are constantly being tested, we have to make sure that we always take stock of our self esteem and strengthen of self image whenever we can. Using self esteem activities is a great way to do this. These examples work best in a group. Perhaps you are a teacher, a girl guide leader, or just a friend hoping to share the message of positive self esteem. Think of self esteem as a bucket filled with water. At birth the bucket is full of water but as we get older we acquire negative beliefs about ourselves. This process of getting lower self esteem is like punching holes into the bottom of the bucket which causes self esteem (water) to slowly leak out. What are some of the things that poke holes in our self esteem buckets? What kinds of words or beliefs can make our self esteem leak out? Make a list of these things and keep it close by or put the list on a wall for all to see. This will act as a reminder of some of the things that knock down self esteem. Here are a few other activities. Have a group discussion on a quote about self esteem. A popular one is "Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission" by Eleanor Roosevelt. Talk about what the quote means? Discuss some instances where this quote may be used. The media does a lot to perpetuate negative self images. TV and magazines being two of the main culprits. As a group select two ads from TV or from a magazine and discuss things like, how does the ad make me feel about myself? What kind of assumptions is the ad making? How is this ad trying to attract or appeal to me? You will be surprised at some of your observations. Self esteem activities are an excellent way to allow you to be more aware about how your self esteem may be eroded. Being conscious of some of these words or beliefs that are being forced upon you, will allow you to put up a higher wall that will prevent you from adopting a low self esteem.
