Better Personal Time Management Can Be Achieved Through Developing Discipline

How important is personal time management? Think about this: you have a job interview at 8am today. But you were at a bar last night, hanging out with your friends.

You said to yourself you’ll just set the alarm clock so you will wake up on time. When you wake up in the morning, it's already 9am. So, is it the alarm clock’s fault or yours?

This is just a common scenario when time management is involved. Whether you realize it or not, personal time management is a very important factor to your personal, social, and professional success.

Don’t be upset if you are having problems with how to deal with your time. You are not alone in this situation and you can do something to help yourself grow.

Developing Time Management Skills for Self Improvement

1.Set Your Personal Goals

Setting your personal goals is very important in developing better time management. Your life is a result of many kinds of choices—big and small.

In time management, you don’t really manage the time because you can’t really control it. What you manage are the goals you have for a certain period of time and how you would prioritize each of these goals.

The way you set your goals is a product of your personal experiences. There are certain choices that you do consciously while some of these choices are done unconsciously.

Learning which should or MUST be prioritized among your goals is very significant for the success of your own time management.

2.Forget Procrastination

Have you heard yourself saying, “It can wait til tomorrow/later?” If yes, then you have a problem with procrastination. A lot of people suffer from this kind of habit. You give important things lesser priority while you prioritize unimportant but enjoyable things more.

Perhaps you have experienced this not only once but several times. What happens in the end? Well, you usually end up cramming to finish your more important tasks. If you ever finished them in time, the result is normally poor.

3.Creating an Effective To-Do List

No, it’s not an old personal time management skill to learn how to create a to-do list. It’s a classic because it has proven its worth and effectiveness lasts for a long time.

With a to-do list, you can set your daily tasks and provide specific time frames for each of these tasks. At the end of the day, you can evaluate your to-do list and see if you have finished all the things you need to do for that day. In short, you will know if you've had a productive day or not.

Developing these simple time management skills will surely lead you to a better you. The key here is D-I-S-C-I-P-L-I-N-E. As long as you have that 10-letter word, you can surely have better personal time management.
