Understand What Overcoming Procrastination Is About And Discover How You Can Beat This Bad Habit
Overcoming procrastination and knowing that procrastination is a form of self-sabotage. Just look at the people around you who are fond of procrastination; or maybe yourself. Observe the effect in theirs and your life? Understanding The Problem There is actually a number of reasons why people are drawn to delaying doing something now, and choosing to do it later . It can be the effect of physical surroundings or the way you organize your day to day tasks. It is also possible that you are distracted by some form of thoughts or emotions. Maybe you are afraid—either to fail or to succeed; or maybe you are overwhelmed. Your constant neglect of what you have to get done, might also be the cause of your unstable level of well-being. Perhaps, you are feeling too tired. Another possible reason why you procrastinate is the thoughts of other people in your life. Maybe you are disturbed about their possible perception of the quality of your work. A few things to Consider: Where Do You Stand? You can only be either of two kinds—a stew-er or do-er. You are a stew-er if you are fond of sitting and stewing about the thing you are supposed to do. You are always thinking so far ahead that you end up doing nothing in the end. If this is you, you have to focus and relax your mind with meditation, mind-body work, and affirmations. Clear your mind. Ground your thoughts. Pause and breathe. Meanwhile, you can be a “do-er” if you do almost anything to avoid the task you should do. You prefer to walk the dog? You opt to sort out your mails or organize your files? You prefer to "do" other things rather than finishing the task at hand Try this. Give yourself 15 minutes and tell yourself, once you are done with the assigned task; then, you can proceed doing the rest of the things that you want to do. But as long as you are not yet finished, you have to stay in your chair and finish your task. The key here to stop delaying is to train yourself and stay in your chair. Lastly, when you are feeling overwhelmed and are having trouble overcoming procrastination, you have to keep in your mind that you can finish every task you have bit by bit—finishing one thing at a time, not all at once. More importantly, don’t forget to celebrate what you have finished. Focus more on what you have accomplished rather than to what you weren’t able to accomplish. Through this, you can gain more confidence to complete all your upcoming tasks.
