Goal Setting Strategies That Go A Long Way

Here are some interesting goal setting strategies that will help you design your plan of action for your various goals.

Many of you can identify with the feeling of having aspecific, clearly defined goal that is well thought out, but have difficulty figuring out the path to get there.

You will need to use your imagination for this task, and yes this goal setting strategy may seem strange at first but you will quickly see how it's results can be beneficial to you.

Start up a conversation with a family member, a friend or if you're really bold a total stranger. Here's where yourimagination comes in. First start off by stating your goalstatement to the person. We shall use the goal of starting the job of your dreams as an example.

Visualize what it would be like working at this dream job, utilize your five senses and explain to the person what your office looks like, describe some of the people who work with you, talk about the clothes you might wear to work and perhaps give them a play by play of the daily tasks you have to undertake at this job.

You've got to really use your imagination and speak as though you have already realized your goal of landing your dream job.

The next part of this goal setting strategy involves getting your partner to ask you questions about how you got there. Questions like, how did you set up the interview, did you answer a job post or did you place a cold call, if so who did you speak to, what did you say, what kinds of things were on your resume. Encourage them to be really inquisitive about the steps you took to achieve this goal.

It is now up to you to come up with believable responses to these questions. But be realistic with your answers. The aim is to try to keep this conversation going for as long as possible, garnishing the maximum amount of detail possible.

Do you see what has happened here? With a little imagination about how you landed your dream job you were more able to clearly figure out the path to acquiring your goal! The questions that your partner asked you turned on different lights in your brain.

The questions forced you to think about things like how you have to prepare your resume and what kind of contacts you need to make. You were essentially creating a map showing you some of the steps needed to get to your goal.

This goal setting tip is a perfect way to further break down your goal. So often we have the big picture in our minds but we are unable to see the tiny but important steps that lead up to the goal. Success can be described as counter intuitive.

Sometimes if we want to speed up we have to slow down.In other words in the pursuit of larger more long term goals, creating smaller goals or steps will get us there faster and more effectively.

The above goal setting tip is sure to get your brain percolating and ready to achieve goals. Also try to recall and write down your answers to how you achieved your goal. Good luck and have fun!
