What Does Your Financial Report Card Look Like? Learn How Financial Goal Setting Can Help You Get An A

Now more than ever you need to get your financial picture in order and financial goal setting is the way to do that.

It's no longer good enough just to budget and to keep a close eye on your money. You've got to really plan and get back in control of your financial situation.

At the very core of a successful financial plan is knowing exactly where you want to be financially; now and in the future.

money-management

Answer this question? What comes to mind when you think about your long term financial plan? (Some of you are thinking "Yikes,I don't even have a financial long term plan") Does it involve debt relief, a shopping list of all the things you would liketo buy, retirement funds?

It's really time to get your financial outlook in check. Setting financial goals is very similar to setting regular goals but there are a few differences.

So, the first thing you need to focus on with financial goal setting is to identify your financial goals. This could be a new car, a down payment on a home, kids college fund or maybe a big vacation. It's up to you.

Then you're going to take each of those goals and break them down in short, medium and long term goals.

So now you have your goals out lined and you have an idea of how long it may take to achieve them. In the mean time instead of twiddling your thumbs, really start educating yourself about finances.

Read financial magazines, learn about investing and how to make your money grow. I know it's a little scary but learn about the stock market.

Make a list of some of the new things you learn about investment options and finances. See how you could utilize this newly found information towards developing a plan of action for your goals. Smart Money, Fast Company, Fortune and Forbes are great financial magazines. Investopedia.com is an excellent resource for getting to know the stock market.

Make sure that you review your action plan on a regular basis to make sure your program is working. You should have a set measurement or gauge that you will use to ensure that you are where you should be in terms of your plan.

If your plan is off in any way, get back to the drawing board, re-evaluate and start a new action plan.

Financial goal setting is a sure way for you to regain control of your money situation.

Discover your financial motivation, it's your life and having financial stability makes it sweeter.
