Examples Of Intrinsic Motivation. Is It Possible To Stay Motivated Without A Reward?

People who are innately motivated are examples of intrinsic motivation. But is it really possible that some people are more naturally motivated than others?

Intrinsic motivation also suggests that individuals are motivated internally and through their own accord, as opposed to being fueled by outside factors.

Basically if you are intrinsically motivated you are motivated simply by the rush you get while completing a particular task. It's not money, or good grades, it's not about the praise from others, no reward whatsoever, it's just about the motivation that lies within you?

Uh-oh I think I see a few eyes rolling. For some people this may be a tough theory to follow. Some examples of intrinsicmotivation might be a group of computer programmers trying to crack a code just for fun or perhaps a worker doing more thanwhat was asked of them just because they're energized by the particular task they are doing.

Extrinsic motivation is when a person is motivated by some kind of reward like money or recognition. Some people say thatwhen it comes to motivation that we're either intrinsically or extrinsically motivated.

Sounds fair enough, but what about that student who refuses to do homework despite the promise of better grades andscholarships? What about the top selling salesman who turns down a promotion, the corner office and a six figure salarybecause he wants to spend more time with family?

There are always exceptions to the rule. It just might be that motivating factors vary from person to person. It all justdepends on the individual and their specific needs.

I'm sure if we think about it we can think of many different examples of intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation, but it really wouldn't matter. It's up to you to tap into what motivates you.

Establish goals and have something to work towards. We often need the prospect of the future in order to maintain and develop ourselves. Find your motivation whether it comes from internal or external factors.
