Why Ethics In Leadership Is Essential For The Surival Of Your Organization







Throughout history the issue of ethics in leadership has always been a touchy one. Nowadays with more and more advancements in technology, emphasis on human rights and eco-concerns, it is becoming even more imperative that leaders pay close attention to ethics.

When we talk about ethics we're referring to prescribed standards of what is morally right and wrong. It also refers tothat which is just or unjust.

More than likely your values and opinions have been shaped by our society and your culture. What your mom and dad value is probably what you value.

So you can see why it's a big deal to realize that your values and ethics will form the back bone for decision making and leadership.

As a good leader you should be aware of your core values and beliefs. In addition to that being aware of what is consideredethical is also important.

These values and ethics should be reflected in your actions and decisions as a leader. When you accept a leadership position you're not just there to lead people and tell them what to do, you also have to lead by example.

Also be mindful of the manner in which you speak to different groups of people and the words that you use to do so.It's not enough for you as an individual to be ethical, you have the ensure that the company you keep is also ethically sound.

This includes the kinds of companies and organizations that you endorse or work with. All these actions and opinions willgreatly affect your credibility and you ability to demand respect and trust from others.

Without these things it'll be difficult for you to be successful as a leader. you see, your team has to know what you stand for and they want to be reassured that what you believe in is morally ethical.

To help you wrap your head around this concept a little more, here are some questions to help you maintain ethics in leadership.

• How can my organization or business become for socially responsible?

• What are some of the core values that I need as a leader to maintain my credibility and responsibility and that of my company/group?

• Is it possible to ethically support employees and achieve business goals at the same time?

• Am I considering diversity in the workplace?

• Am I ensuring that my vision and goals for my business/organization are staying true to ethical guidelines?

There are so many facets to ethics in leadership. We could talk about equity, religion, disabilities, fraud and the listgoes on and on.

The bottom line is that as a leader you and your organization should have a firm set of ethical guidelines to follow that would help you stay within the boundaries of what is right and what is wrong.
