How the effects of procrastination can mess up your life

So it's one thing to always procrastinate, but what about the actual effects of procrastination? What are some of the things that can happen to your relationships, your work, your health and your life in general as a result of your procrastinating?

Believe it or not the effects are many and they may not be what you would immediately think of.

Let's go over some of these effects, starting with some of the more commonly known ones.

Procrastination can lead to stress. That nagging feeling that something has been left undone or the unfinished taskspiling up on your plate can cause a lot of anxiety and stress. Some studies actually show that unnecessary stress can affect our immune system and it's ability to fight off diseases. Stress and overall anxious feelings can affect your ability to focus and lack of focus or concentration is a leading cause ofaccidents i.e. a car crash.

Constantly leaving tasks incomplete creates clutter and disorder around you which leads to a viscous cycle. Picture a desk full of papers and forms on it, all those things are unfinished tasks. Can you imagine how difficult it would be to work in an environment with incomplete projects looming all around you? Not to mention a messy desk(or bedroom/office) makes it harder to concentrate and can cause you to be inefficient.

The effects of procrastination may also be seen in the workplace. Once people start to notice that you are a perpetualprocrastinator or a "P.P" they will begin to think that you are not able to manage your responsibilities and that you are generally not able to do your job properly. As a "P.P" you might also be thought of as lazy because there is that notion that you don't want to get things done. When your co-workers and colleagues have a negative impression of you that may affect your ability to move up in a company and may result in job loss. Now that's stressful!

When we procrastinate we are doing nothing more than cheating ourselves. The negative, sometimes catastrophic, effects of procrastination are not worth the extra time that you think you are gaining by putting things off. Hopefully in seeing how procrastinating can affect your life you will make a more concerted effect to stay ahead of deadlines and manage your time better so that you will no longer be a "P.P".
