How Do You Define Leadership? Are You Sure You Truly Understand What Leadership Is?

If we were to define leadership we would define it as a method through which a person or group influences others to obtain certain goals and objectives, which in turn improves the coherency and efficiency of the group.

Leadership can also be defined as being able to motivate and inspire others.

In this way leadership doesn't necessarilyhave to come from the executive level.

It is something that encourages a new direction for a group and that can come from anyone.

The interesting thing is that very often when we define leadership, we often think about that one champion that one person who takes on all the responsibility and eventually all the glory.

However leadership is not just about one person. No one can be successful without the help of others. It's about the team effort.

When we talk about leadership,we also have to think about the many different leadership styles.

Think back to some of the bosses or team leaders you've had in the past and you can probably identify a couple different leadership styles. There are six leadership styles that are the most common.

They are: Charismatic,Autocratic,Bureaucratic,Participative, Transformational and Situational. They each have their own benefits and disadvantages.

Many of us strive to be good leaders but often fall short. Good leadership is often scarce but it is possible. Good leadership involves selfless service and honorable character.It's a continuous learning process, one that grows and evolves.
