It may not be a good idea to take risks and break away from your original business model. Stay true to what you do best and stay connected to your core clients and keep them close.

  • Consider going green to cut costs. It may be something small like turning off lights in empty rooms or using less paper.Believe it or not small acts like this can help to cut your business costs substantially.

You would be surprised to know how much money you are spending on office supplies like printer ink and paper. Very often business will print various versions of schedules or projects. Try to re-use paper when you can or simply wait until a final version can be agreed upon and only print that. You will be doing your environment a favor and saving money at the same time.

  • Your 2009 business goals should be all about getting back in touch with your clients/customers. Too often businesses seem to neglect customer service. Get back to the basics of effective customer service. Give your clients the attention they need to ensure that you retain their business.

Try to respond to their needs. Implement a plan to help your clients know that you are on their side and constantly have their best interests in mind. You may need to ask questions like: What is our primary method of client/customer interaction? Do we have a set policy on this? Is there a better way to interact with our clients/customers? What are some of there requests? How can we update and tweak our products/services to meet these needs?

    Ask yourself:

  • What were my major accomplishments last year?

  • What was the business' biggest achievement last year?

  • As a business owner What am I most thankful for?

  • Was the business able to achieve all the goals set last year?

  • What were our shortcomings in the goals we did not reach?

A new year presents a great opportunity for change for improvement or for failure. Don't let it be the latter. Your 2009 business forecasts and goals will help take your business to another level. Take a good look at the outcomes from the previous year. Write down all the things that worked well and the things that did not.
